Sicily: San Giovanni Degli Eremiti, Palermo
Day 3 Set off for Agrigento stopping first at Caltagirone to see ceramics. This pretty hilltop town is convenient for a coffee stop. On to Piazza Armerina for lunch. Afternoon visit the Roman Villa del Casale to see the magnificent III-IV century AD mosaics. On to Agrigento in time for dinner. Overnight in Hotel Villa Athena.
Day 4 Morning visit the Valley of the Temples (V-century B.C). Afternoon the archaeological museum. Dinner. As darkness falls, a panoramic coach tour of the illuminated temples makes a perfect ending to the day. Overnight again at Villa Athena, Agrigento.
Day 5 To Selinunte, the westernmost Greek colony in Sicily, founded halfway through the VII-century BC. Morning visit Greek temples (V-century BC). Lunch at Marinella beachside restaurant. Afternoon drive to Segesta, visit temple and perhaps Greek theatre. Overnight in Palermo, Hotel Delle Palme (4 nights).
